CHITWAN, Nov 5: Former king Gyanendra Shah, who arrived in Chitwan on Monday to meet his well wishers, decided to walk to receive greetings from people standing on both sides of the road.

However, his aging legs did not seem to support him as he could not walk all the way to receive greetings from all the well-wishers spread out along a one km stretch. [break]

It was for the first time after abolition of monarchy six years ago that Gyanendra walked among the public in Chitwan. Members of Shiva Sena, civil societies, Women´s group along with those playing traditional Nepali musical instruments were present to welcome the former monarch at Pokhara Buspark.

“He is a progeny of the monarchs who built this country. He is also a former king of this very country. We still have faith in him,” said Chairman of Chitwan District Civil Society, Balbikarm Thapa.

Like Thapa, all the well-wishers were addressing Gyanendra as “His Majesty”. Shah, who is on his way to Nawalparasi, received bouquet of flowers and garlands from his supporters on reaching Chitwan in his Jeep from Dhading.
