SIMIKOT, Nov 30: A total of 78 quintals of food grains was transported to Limi at Namkha Rural Municipality-6 on Monday. Limi is located in the remote northern belt of Humla district.

“Transportation of rice began via a Nepal Army helicopter from Monday,” said Chief District Officer Ganesh Acharya, adding that the people in Limi were facing an imminent threat of hunger because the Hilsa border point linked to China was closed for two years.

The food grains have been taken to Limi via Simikot and Hilsa. Limi will get a total of 502 quintals of rice, he added.

Other consignments will continue later today, he added.

Ward Chairman Paljor Tamang said that the food grains would be distributed to people living in Limi, Halji, Til, and Jang villages.

Tamang had reached Simkot, leading a 27-member team to prod the local administration to ensure an immediate supply of rice. Federal lawmaker Rangamati Shahi had also reached Limi to put further pressure on the administration to address the imminent threats of hunger.
