“We are ready to forward the reports of the thematic committee through a vote. But it is not being done in the name of consensus,” said Gurung while speaking at the legislature-parliament on Sunday.
The constitution-making process has hit the roadblock due to sharp differences on the constitutional provisions among the political parties. Of the 11 reports of the thematic committees, the CA full meeting has forwarded only three reports to the CC due to sharp differences among the political parties. The CC can prepare the first integrated draft of the constitution only after receiving all the reports.
“Why are we not following the CA calendar? This has posed a challenge to the CA chairman. We strongly demand that the CA follow the calendar,” said Gurung. He alleged that the ruling parties have ignored the historic task of constitution-drafting.
Also speaking at the parliament, Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel argued that the constitution-making process has been disturbed due to the Maoists´ hankering for power.
“Constitution-making and the forming a government are completely different things. Maoists say constitution drafting would be possible only if they lead the government. It is dishonesty on the part of the Maoists,” said Poudel.
He also criticized the Maoists for giving training to their cadres to topple the government through street protests and creating an environment of fear.
