FNJ marks founding day

KATHMANDU, March 29: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) organized a morning procession Monday to mark its 55th founding day.



The procession that began from Bhrikutimandap passed through Padmodaya, Putalisadak, Bagbazaar and Ratnapark before turning into a mass meeting upon reaching back to the starting point.[break]



The participants of the morning process carried the major banner reading ‘Journalists’ solidarity for professional and physical security, and complete press freedom in the new Constitution’.



Addressing the participants, President of the Federation, Dharmendra Jha said the FNJ has been fighting for press freedom since its inception. However, the Government and political parties have not shown seriousness to address the issues raised by the Federation.



He also said that the Federation should continue exerting pressure ensure that the Constitution is drafted on time.



Paying tributes to late Girija Prasad Koirala, Jha also shed light on the contribution that the late Koirala and other senior leaders made in the press freedom movement and establishment of the Federation.



Also this morning, journalists in Ilam took out a morning procession that passed through Ilam bazaar and converged into a corner meet at the FNJ Office premises.



At the meet, journalists Dharma Gautam, Somnath Suseli, FNJ, Ilam President Satendra Jabegu, Secretary Ashok Kumar Bantawan and others said journalists were still at risk for writing news impartially.
