The rally was organised on the day of killing of Janakpur based journalist Uma Singh from in front of the Mahendra Police Club where veteran journalist and litterateur Krishna Sen Ichchhuk was arrested and tortured before killing him by the security forces.
The rally made its way through Putalisadak, Bagbazaar, Ratnapark and changed into a corner assembly in front of the Mahendra Police Club.
FNJ Chairman Shiva Gaunle said that the journalists were forced to stage protest programmes for press freedom and security of journalists as well as to seek details of murderers of journalists Ichchhuk to Yadav Poudel.
He said the investigation and action against the murderers of journalist Thapa should not be shadowed and voice should be raised against the murder of all journalists.
Chairman Gaunle also said the FNJ is sending a high-level team to Dailekh to probe the death of journalist Thapa.
Vice-chairwoman of FNJ Yeshoda Timilsina said all 33 cases of journalists´ murder should be investigated into. So far, 33 journalists have been killed from the state and rebel sides.
Senior journalist Harihar Birahi said the journalists should protest the anti-press freedom activities like threat, abduction and terrorizing.
Former Chairman of FNJ Bishnu Nisthuri said the statement given by the Prime Minister after the culprits admitted their crimes has lessened the journalists´ morale.
General secretary of Press Chautari Nepal Bishnu Rijal said all journalists should unite to probe the murders of other journalists as well.
Likewise, Treasurer of Revolutionary Journalists Association Khil Bahadur Bhandari expressed solidarity to the FNJ´s call for demanding action against the murderers of journalist Thapa, adding that some national-level newspapers were prejudiced in the arrest and even during the murder of journalist Ichchhuk.
Meanwhile, legal practitioners have also demanded action against the murderers of journalist Dekendra Thapa.
Speaking at an interaction programme organised by the Reporters´ Club in the capital on Friday, the legal practitioners said the culprits should not be let scot-free by connecting the murder of journalist Thapa with war crime adding that the incident was linked to crime against humanity.
President of Nepal Bar Association (NBA) Prem Bahadur Khadka said journalist Thapa was killed inhumanely and the interference on the incident by Attorney General was violation of rule of law.
Former NBA President Bishow Kanta Mainali said the incident should be internationalized and the government should not protect the incident.
Another former NBA President Shambhu Thapa said that the incident should be internationalized if it the case was obstructed by the government.
Other legal practitioners Harihar Dahal and Bal Krishna Neupane stressed for investigation into the case by sending a high-level team.
