KATHMANDU, June 19: The Federation of Nepalese Crushers and Mines Entrepreneurs' Association (FNCMEA) has issued a warning to cease gravel and sand production nationwide from July 1.

During a press conference held in Kathmandu on Sunday, the FNCMEA announced its decision to halt gravel and sand production across the country, effective July 1.

The FNCMEA has urged the government to provide instructions for the renovation of registered and licensed crusher mines and sand industries in compliance with the law by June 30.

Sitaram Neupane, the president of the FNCMEA, expressed dissatisfaction, stating that despite the government's 10-year-long promises to address the challenges faced by crushers, no substantial progress has been made.

Neupane complained that not only were illegal crusher industries shut down, but also those operating in accordance with the law. He criticized the cabinet decision made on January 25, which addressed taxes, duties, fees, and other revenue pertaining to registered crusher industries that were unable to renew due to standards not being met. He emphasized that the implementation of this decision had been pending until the end of June.

Neupane further explained that when crusher industries attempted to register or submit revenue, the renewal process was unclear in the letter received, leading to refusals to accept payments and subsequent failure to renew the industries.

He stated that if the government does not provide directives for registered and licensed crusher mining and sand industries to resume operations by June 30, the sale, distribution, and production of all crushers, mining, and sand industries throughout the country will be indefinitely suspended and closed as of July 1.
