Joshi was abducted during an attack by Hamas on Israeli territory on October 7, 2023, which resulted in the deaths of over a thousand people, including ten Nepali nationals. Joshi was among those taken captive by the group. The Israeli government had previously submitted a list to Hamas requesting the release of vulnerable individuals, including those in critical health, and has made preparations for their release in several phases.
The government, through its diplomatic channels, has been actively advocating for Joshi’s release at the United Nations and other international forums. Minister Dr Rana has continued to urge the international community to step up efforts to ensure his safe return.
