Minister Pandey is leading the Nepalese delegation at the conference after Minister for Home Affairs Bam Dev Gautam could not find time in view of his busy schedule at home. Pandey is accompanied by Under Secretary Lekhanath Bhattarai at United Nations Division at the MoFA.
Likewise, a separate delegation of Home Ministry comprising of Armed Police Chief Kosh Raj Onta, Joint Secretary Rameshwar Dangal, who heads Disaster Management Section at the ministry, and Secretary at Local Development Ministry Som Lal Subedi and lawmaker Gangalal Tuladhar have also flown to Japan to take part in the conference.
The UN is mulling to keep the Disaster Risk Reduction aspect as one of the important components of Post-2015 Development Agenda. Japan had taken active initiation to introduce Hugo Framework of Action on Disaster Risk Reduction, which Nepal has also brought into implementation.
Will Major General Pandey step down amid age dispute?
According to MoFA Spokesperson Tara Prasad Pokharel, Minister Pandey will fly directly to Beijing after attending the world conference on March 16. "There is a standing invitation of China for the foreign minister. He is scheduled to fly directly to Beijing from Japan on an official visit to China," he said.
During his recent visit to Nepal, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Wi had extended official invitation to Minister Pandey to visit to China. Chief of North East Asia Division Jhabindra Aryal will travel to Beijing to accompany Minister Pandey during his China visit.
As per the preliminary plan, Minister Pandey is scheduled to return home on March 21. The visit of Foreign Minister comes in the wake of President Ram Baran Yadav making preparations to visit China to attend the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2015 scheduled to be held from March 26-29.
