KATHMANDU, April 24: A FlyDubai aircraft experienced an engine failure shortly after takeoff from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Monday evening.

The Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which was headed to Dubai, was forced to hold in the sky for some time before continuing its journey once the fire seen in one of its engines was extinguished.

Despite some reports of a loud noise heard by locals in Kathmandu and Lalitpur, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) confirmed that the flight was proceeding to its destination as planned and described the operation as normal.

The TIA had briefly put several flights on hold while the FlyDubai aircraft made a detour over Dhading, Kavre and Bara.

The pilot of the aircraft flew to the destination and made a safe and normal landing in Dubai after a general discussion with the relevant experts. The plane has carried 167 passengers, the TIA said.
