Markdwaya Sapkota, a local of Rayadada VDC in Baglung, died on Tuesday after he was swept away by a flood while he was sleeping in a shed. Police said his body was found on Wednesday morning. The flood also swept three buffaloes and an ox. Similarly, Ganesh Thapa Magar, 23, of Nagliwant VDC of Parbat district was swept away by Kaligandaki River. He is still missing.
Likewise, Saheli Kahar, 50, of Siswa-5, Kapilvastu died after being swept away by the raging Kanchaniya river while crossing the river to fetch paddy seedlings.
The incessant rain in Kapilvastu has inundated Dhankauli, Dohani, Gotihawa and Kajrahawa VDCs and Banganga river has eroded land in Kopwa and Niglihawa. Similarly, Siddhartha Highway that was blocked by a landslide at Siddhababa on Tuesday is yet to be cleared.
Our correspondent in Surkhet reported that Monday´s flood in a Badi settlement on the banks of Jhuprakhola, some 15 kilometers east of Birendranagar, reduced every settler to a total pauper.
Meanwhile, the incessant rain and the ensuing landslides have blocked the Karnali Highway at several points with the largest one sweeping away a 15-meter section of the road at Ramaghat, Surkhet. Acting head of the Surkhet-Jumla Road Project Rajendra Adhikari said the highway has also been obstructed at Khidkijyula, Dahikhola and Raakam.
Similarly, our correspondent in Dang has reported obstruction of the Dang-Salyan section of the Rapti Highway at Tulsipur-1 due to landslide.
