Flight services at TIA disrupt due to poor visibility and air pollution

KATHMANDU, April 3: Regular domestic and international flight services at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) have been affected due to seasonal adverse conditions.


According to TIA General Manager Jagannath Niraula, the visibility at the airport has been low due to air pollution in Kathmandu over the past three days, causing disruptions in flight arrivals and departures.

With visibility at just 1,600 meters, IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) is being implemented. Although flights have not been canceled, they are experiencing delays, he added.


Despite slot management under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), delays have occurred due to flight disruptions, according to the airport authorities. Currently, there are 300 domestic and 100 international flights scheduled for arrivals.


The weather is currently hazy, and visibility is very low. Kathmandu's air has been heavily polluted for the past three days, affecting flight operations.
