Five Russian nationals die during Dhaulagiri expedition, one rescued alive

MYAGDI (Republica): Five Russian nationals have died while attempting to summit Mount Dhaulagiri.


The climbers who were missing since Sunday were found dead on Tuesday afternoon by a private rescue team. They had been out of contact since 11 PM Sunday from Camp III. The bodies were found 400 meters above the camp. Miraculously, one Russian climber was rescued alive, informed Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bharat Shrestha of the District Police Office, Myagdi.

According to DSP Shrestha, a team of 14 Russian climbers had embarked on a journey to climb Mt Dhaulagiri. However, only eight of them descended from the mountain while six went missing. The circumstances under which the climbers were killed are currently being investigated by the police. 


DSP Shrestha added that the injured Russian climber has been airlifted to Kathmandu. According to him, the rescue operation was carried out by a private company in charge of the expedition.


He added that the victims have been identified as Alexander Dusheyko, Oleg Kurgulov, Chistikov Vladimir, Nosenko Mikhail, and Shpilevoz Dmitri.
