Five rhinos died at CNP in past two months

The country currently has 645 rhinos

KATHMANDU, Oct 4: The Chitwan National Park (CNP) recorded the death of five rhinoceroses in the past two months.

According to Ashok Ram, information officer at CNP, four rhinos died of natural causes while one was killed by poachers.

According to the latest count in 2015, CNP is home to 605 rhinos. There are a total of 645 rhinos in the country.

The CNP authorities had made preparations to organize a rhino census this year as well but the plan failed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The census is now scheduled for next year, according to Chief Conservation Officer Ananath Baral.
