KATHMANDU, June 15: The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has formed a committee to investigate the collapse of the under-construction bridge over Hewa Khola, which connects Phidim-4 and Hilihang-7 on the Mechi Highway section between Phidim and Taplejung.
Minister Devendra Dahal made a ministerial-level decision to form a five-member study and investigation committee. The committee, chaired by Lalijan Khanal, Deputy Director General of the Department of Roads, includes Binod Kumar Mauwar, Chief of the Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office, Damak; Jibendra Mishra, Chief of the Road Division Office, Butwal; Shyam Kumar Yadav, Chief of Damak Division; and Amit Kumar Barma, CDE of the Department of Roads.
Construction work of temporary diversion at Hewa Khola starts

The committee has been tasked to conduct an on-site study and investigation to determine the cause of the bridge collapse, suggest measures to prevent such incidents in the future, and recommend arrangements for temporary traffic operation at the site. They are required to submit a report within seven days.
The committee began its work on Sunday.
Minister Dahal expressed regret over the unexpected incident and deep condolences for the deaths of injured workers. He also instructed Secretary Keshav Kumar Sharma and Director General Dr Bijay Jaisi of the Department of Roads to ensure no shortcomings in the treatment of the injured.
