Five killed in Tanahun lightning, landslide

POKHARA, May 20: At least five people were killed in separate incidents here in Tanahun district on Tuesday evening.

According to Tanaun police, two people were killed after a lightning struck a house of Juddhabir Thapa at Kot Durbar-6 of the district.

The deceased are Hasta Bhaadur Thapa, 37, and his  wife Jharimaya Thapa, 41, said, SP Mohan Kumar Acharya. Both the deceased are from the same family.

Likewise, two youths were killed in a landslide at Bansdanda, at the Muglin-Aanbunkhaireni section of the Prithvi Highway on Tuesday night.

According to SP Acharya, Ganesh Thapa, 15 and Bhakta Bahadur Thapa, 16 died while another one identified as Manoj Gurung,22, severely injured in the incident.

Police said that they were killed after being hit by the stone due to the landslide as they were heading to Muglin on a motorbike.  Injured Gurung is currently receving medical treatment.
Similarly, Mini Bahadur Gurung, 32, of Bandipur-7 of the district has been killed due to electrocution triggered by lightning.

Police said Gurung died as he tried to douse the fire after his electric meter box caught fire due to lightning.
