SINDHUPALCHOWK, Sept 14: National Reconstruction Authority has inaugurated the reconstructed buildings of five quake-hit government offices in Sindhupalchowk on Saturday.
The buildings of District Forest Office, Finance Controller General Office, residence of chief district officer, Land Revenue Office and District Emergency Help Office have been inaugurated jointly by NRA CEO Sushil Gyewali, and lawmakers of federal parliament duo Agni Sapkota and Sher Bahadur Tamang.
16 years on, government buildings still not reconstructed
Those buildings were rebuilt with the financial assistance of the Government of Nepal and the Asian Development Bank. The total cost of reconstruction stood at Rs. 150 million.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, CEO Gyewali asserted that completion of the government offices would help in improved public service delivery. “As Sindhupalchowk is one of the worst-affected districts, we are trying to change the disaster as an opportunity to reconstructing more reliable quake-proof structures,” Gyewali remarked.
Lawmaker Sapkota expressed gratitude to all those involved in the reconstruction of quake-affected infrastructures. He also urged the government to build Earthquake Memorial Park, which is under construction, as a model one.
Speaking at the program, another lawmaker Tamang also expressed his gratitude to NRA, local people, people’s representatives and others. Claiming that the district would become a model district after reconstruction, Tamang opined that earthquake could be taken as opportunity despite the loss of thousands of lives.
