Fire continues to take toll across the country

PARASI, April 12: A fire that reportedly started due to a spark from an electricity transformer gutted 50 houses and sheds at Somani village in Nawalparasi district, destroying property worth approximately five hundred thousand rupees.



The incident occurred on Thursday evening. Fifty houses and sheds belonging to five families at Somani VDC-6 were gutted by fire.[break]



The fire was brought under control by the locals and personnel of the Nepalese Army and the Armed Police Force with the help of a fire engine. It took one and half hours to bring the blaze under control. The five families have been left homeless, police said.



Meanwhile, property worth five million rupees was destroyed by fire at Thamo, Namche in the district.



The fire started at the house of Mingmar Dorji Sherpa gutted the whole house, and the goods, grains and property inside the house. the fire broke out at 2.45 p.m. on Thursday and it was extingushed nearly after three and a quarter hours later.



The Sherpa family has become homeless and is taking shelter at a neighbour´s house.
