KATHMANDU, May 24: Nepal will host the International Everest Summiteers Summit 2025 for the first time in Kathmandu on May 27 (Jestha 13), the Everest Alliance Nepal announced at a press conference in the capital.

Sudarshan Nepal, President of the organizing body, said the summit will gather national and international Everest climbers from Nepal and other countries. The event will provide a platform for mountaineering experts, policymakers, conservationists, tourism stakeholders, local Himalayan communities, tourism entrepreneurs, Sherpas, trekkers, and representatives of mountain cultures. They will discuss ways to promote sustainable tourism, conserve the Himalayan environment, and uplift local communities through international cooperation.

Countries including India, China, the United States, Pakistan, Austria, the United Kingdom, Italy, Norway, Iran, Singapore, Australia, Lebanon, Morocco, and the UAE will actively participate in the summit.

The Everest Summiteers Summit will bring together climbers who have successfully scaled Mount Everest from around the world on a single platform. They will share inspiring stories of their journeys, successes, struggles, and lessons learned. The summit will also prioritize conservation efforts. International and national organizations such as ICIMOD, IUCN, WWF, ZSL, and NTNC have strongly supported the event, emphasizing environmental balance and the sustainable future of the Himalayan region as key focus areas.

Organizers will honor the youngest Sherpa who first climbed Everest alongside Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953 with a "Lifetime Achievement Award." He represents not only living history but also an era. This award will recognize his contributions to mountaineering and inspire the new generation.

The summit will also offer seminars on climbing challenges, women's participation, the climate crisis, and safe technologies. The organizers will host the Everest Honors Ceremony, a Himalayan cultural festival, art exhibitions, and displays showcasing mountain lifestyles, along with photo and equipment exhibitions. They have partnered closely with rural municipalities such as Namche, Khumbu, Kaski, and Myagdi, as well as the Nepal Handicraft Federation, to include local handicrafts and traditional Himalayan materials, which will add more interest to the event.

With the message "Everest is our pride, identity, and now our responsibility," the summit aims to raise awareness about the growing environmental crisis in the mountains, promote responsible mountaineering practices, and emphasize the need for international cooperation. The event will help establish Nepal as a safe and sustainable mountaineering destination, promote environmental conservation, and strengthen international networks. The organizers said the Everest Summiteers Summit 2025 is not just a program—it represents a convergence of dreams, struggles, courage, and success. It will inspire the new generation through the experiences of Everest climbers and provide a historic opportunity to further establish Nepal on the global tourism map.

The organization stated that it has played an important role in promoting Nepal's mountainous regions and advocating for environmental protection and responsible tourism through various programs, workshops, and initiatives.
