KATHMANDU, June 8: Commenting on the government’s budget and programs for upcoming Fiscal Year 2019/20, the Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal (FHAN) has said that the sector has been largely overlooked.
“The government’s decision to prioritizing social security, and introducing several programs and huge budget for the cause is commendable. However, the government has failed to address the handicraft industry that has been creating jobs, promoting export over import, contributing in poverty alleviation, and supporting the economy substantially”, a statement issued by the federation read.
What is missing in budget for agriculture?
The FHAN said its request to the government for a Craft Village, that could prove to stand as a milestone in the field of handicraft, has gone unheard for almost two decades now.
The federation has urged the government to allocate a budget of Rs 3 billion for the development of industrial infrastructure, among other incentives for the sector.
