Speaker's election scheduled for February 10



The first meeting of provincial assembly of Province 3 has set February 10 for the election of province's speaker. The meeting was held at the then office of the Central Regional Education Directorate,Hetauda.


Swaraj arrives in Kathmandu


Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has arrived in Kathmandu on a two-day official visit as an special emissary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In her seventh visit to Nepal arrived with Bijaya keshar Gokhle, External Affairs Secretary and Raveesh Kumar, Spokesperson of Ministry.

Unification coordination meeting underway at Balkot


The meeting of the party unification coordination committee of CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) is underway at Balkot. UML chairperson KP Sharma Oli and Maoist Center chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal and members of the joint task force of both parties are present in the meeting.


Supreme Court stays order to relocate Rukum-East headquarters


The Supreme Court has issued an interim order barring the implementation of the government decisions from relocating the district headquarters of Rukum East. A single bench of Dipak Kumar Karki on Thursday issued this order ruling that the headquarters  Rukumkot should not be relocated. 


Six gamblers held with Rs 3.3 million in Surkhet


Surkhet Police has arrested six gamblers along with Rs 3.3 million in cash there on Wednesday night. Those arrested are Gyanendra Bahadur Bishwolarma of Birendranagar-1, Tika Oli and Gyanendra Nepali ofBirendranagar-3, Durga Prasad Sapkota, Bhadra bahadur Chhetri and Sabir Miya of Birendranagar-6.


28 Russians have Olympic doping bans lifted


Twenty-eight Russian athletes had their Olypic doping bans overturned Thursday, throwing the International Olympic Committee’s policy on the country into turmoil. The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling was set to reinstate seven Russian medals from the 2014 Sochi Olympics, including gold in men’s skeleton and men’s 50-kilometer cross-country skiing.
