With no sign of monsoon as the transplanting time for rice, the main staple food of the population, already began, the farmers who mostly depend on rainfed farming had no option but to seek the god’s help. [break]
Affected by a long spell of drought, the farmers staged the mythical marriage to make the rain god happy. There has been no rainfall in Ayodhyapuri for the past six months.
The frog marriage witnessed every step that is followed in the marriage of humans. There was a bride frog and a groom frog, two people acted as the father of the bride and the father of the groom, there was a band, there was a wedding procession and there was chanting of mantras. The event was organized by Madi Uplift Committee.
The event was organized after crops started drying, said a local, Shiva Ale. “We were forced to do this as there is no alternative,” he said, adding that myth has that the god gifts rainfall if farmers organize marriage of frogs. Shyam Raj Subedi, another local, said there are past evidences of rainfall after holding the marriage of frogs.
Lack of rainfall combined with rising mercury has also affected human activities. People have stopped movement in the day time. Diseases are on the rise.
