KHOTANG, July 1: Farmers of Jantedhunga Rural Municipality-5 have started cutting paddy and feeding it to cattle after the pest infestation prevented them from cultivating paddy.
After the outbreak of the infection of small black insects, the farmers started cutting and giving paddy plants to the cattle. The only thing that can be seen in the paddy field on the banks of the Sawa River is the unripe plant.
Most of the farmers are preparing to plant winter paddy after the monsoon paddy plants showed no sign of bearing yields. Local farmer Jit Bahadur Karki complained that he could not get a harvest that would be enough seedlings for 22 ropanis of land. The affected farmers have sought relief from the local government.
