Ram Chandra Pandey, son of Tem Lal Pandey of Dhurkotbastu VDC-3, who had promised 14-year-old Dalit girl 10 months ago that he would marry her, abandoned her after she gave birth to their baby. Since then Tem Lal along with his family members fled the village and went out of contact.[break]
Though the District Administration Office, under pressure from Dalit activists and locals, had summoned the Pandey family, none of them appeared before the authority. Instead, they sold all their property and went to Tarai.
This news came to light after a team of Dalit activists went to District Land Revenue Office. Record at the office shows that Pandey had transferred ownership of all his property to his daughter Laxmi Bhandari of Dhurkot-1, said Dalit activist Ganesh Bishwokarma.
The victim girl is a sixth grader at Panchayan Higher School. Ramchandra was a ninth grader at the same school.
