'Extending more one-week period for collecting voters' lists technically impossible' : EC

KATHMANDU, Aug 20: The Election Commission has refused a request of the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) to extend more one-week window period for voters who are yet to be registered in the new electoral rolls with photo and biometrics.



During a meeting at the Election Comission on Tuesday, Chief Election Commissioner Nil Kantha Uprety and commissioners informed leaders major parties representing to the HLPC that extending more one-week window period would be ‘technically impossible’ with the view of holding Constituent Assembly elections on the slated date. However, leaders of the major parties made a written request to the EC for extending one-wee window period. [break]



During the meeting Nepali Congress president and HLPC coordinator Sushil Koirala, CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal, UCPN-Maoist vice president Narayan Kaji Shrestha were present among leaders of the major parties.



The EC had decided to provide one-week window period as per the request of the HLPC on Aug 15 as per the request of the HLPC.
