Officials of Morang Industries Association (MIA) said exports dropped largely because leading manufacturers like that of zinc sheets, brass sheets and GI wire failed to cater to the demands that they had received.
Exports of zinc sheets through Jogbani customs stood at a mere Rs 2.22 billion during the period, shows statistics. In the same period last year, the exports had crossed well over Rs 4.38 billion.
“Protracted power outage was the largely hit the productions. Our exports dropped, as we could not utilize our capacity,” officials at Arati Strips told myrepublica.com.
Arati Strips is the largest manufacturer and exporter of zinc sheets in the region.
Exports of GI wire too dropped to Rs 286.09 million during the first 10 months of 2009/10, from Rs 452.10 million recorded in the same period last year. Likewise, export of jute packages too dropped to Rs 659.8 million, jute turbine to Rs 412.9 million and soaps to 96.8 million during the period.
Exports of leather declined to Rs 11.7 million and plastic sacks to Rs 618 million over the period.
