Explore Asia CAN Info-Tech begins

KATHMANDU, Jan 26: The largest ICT fair of the country Explore Asia CAN Info-Tech 2012 kicked off in the capital on Thursday.



Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) has been organizing the annual event for last 17 years with objectives of raising awareness on usage of ICT and providing platform for promoting latest gadgets. [break]



Kalpana Dhamala, minster of Science and Technology, inaugurated the event at the Bhrikuti Mandap.



Prime minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, who couldn’t make the physical presence at the inauguration ceremony, sent in a video message.



“The increasing digital divide was worst than the gap of rich and poor of the country and government was committed on increasing the accessibility of ICT in rural areas,” PM Bhattarai said in the video message adding that the government was also positive about CAN’s proposal of declaring 2013 as ICT year.



The event features 39 stalls in branding exhibition centre and 144 stalls for trade in truss.



On the first day of the six-day event, visitors were attracted to special internet packages, low cost Tablet PCs, solar lanterns and other power solutions.
