She was 71. Grand-daughter of Mohan Shamsher Jang Bahadur Rana, the last Rana Prime Minister of Nepal, she was married to Karan Singh in 1950.
Rajya Lakshmi was an active social worker and known for her work for mentally challenged children under the aegis of All India Women´s Conference which was founded by her and Delhi Society for the Welfare of Mentally Retarded Children.
An active member of the FICCI Ladies Organization, she had also set up a center for such kids in Okhla here.
The center caters to over 300 mentally retarded children and includes a sheltered workshop, a vocational training center, a diagnostic clinic and several other rehabilitation facilities.
