KATHMANDU, August 20: The British government has proposed talks with Nepal to address the demands of the agitating Gorkhas for equal pensions and rights.

According to the Embassy of Nepal in London, the United Kingdom has agreed to form a bilateral dialogue committee between Nepal and the United Kingdom and hold talks within December on the basis of the report of the Joint Technical Committee.

The British have put forward a proposal to hold talks with the Nepali government before ending the 13-day hunger strike in London on Thursday. Ex-Gurkhas Gyan Raj Rai, Pushpa Rana Ghale and Dhan Bahadur Gurung have broken their hunger strike to address their demands after the British government proposed talks.

According to the agreement, preliminary discussions between the British government officials and Nepali officials and the Gorkhas will be held on September 8 and the talks will start from December.

Minister for Defence people and Veterans Leo Docherty and Nepal's Ambassador to the UK Lokdarshan Regmi arrived in front of the British Prime Minister's Office in London to announce the end of the hunger strike by feeding the agitating Gurkhas juice.

The agitating ex-Gurkhas have been demanding the same rights and pensions saying they were discriminated against in terms of pensions. But the British government has been ignoring those demands.
