EU provides Rs 100m to WFP

KATHMANDU, Nov 30: The European Union is providing a grant assistance of 1,047,000 euros (around Rs 100.15 million) to the Nepal Government.



The assistance has been extended to allow the UN World Food Programme (WFP) transfer its food security phase classification monitoring system and to strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Agriculture and Co-operatives (MoAC) to monitor and analyze food security in the country. [break]



Bishnu Prasad Aryal, joint secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture Co-operatives and Nicolas Oberlin, deputy country director of WFP, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Ministry Monday for executing the aforementioned programs, states a statement received Tuesday.



The assistance being provided as a part of a larger 9 million euros assistance funded by the European Union and implemented by WFP in seven food insecure districts in the mid and far western development regions.



District Food Security Networks have been set up by WFP in close cooperation with Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MoAC) in 61 out of the 75 districts of Nepal, the statement added.
