KATHMANDU, May 8: The Delegation of the European Union to Nepal celebrated Europe Day 2025 with a special event held at the Patan Museum in Lalitpur on Friday.
Europe Day, observed annually on May 9, commemorates the signing of the Schuman Declaration in 1950, which laid the foundation for what would later become the European Union. This year’s celebration held particular significance, marking the 75th anniversary of the historic declaration.

The event’s Chief Guest was Vice President of Nepal Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav. Other notable attendees included Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan, ministers and government officials, ambassadors of EU Member States, members of civil society, private sector representatives, media personnel, youth participants, and other friends and partners of the EU.
The program featured a presentation on a youth-led environmental campaign, highlighting the EU’s commitment to sustainability and youth engagement in Nepal. The Nepali Army Band opened the event with performances of the national anthems of Nepal and the European Union, symbolizing the strong and enduring friendship between the two.
In her remarks, EU Ambassador to Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo, said, “Nepal is a trusted partner of the European Union. Through our Global Gateway initiative, we support Nepal’s prosperity agenda, working together with EU Member States and European Development Finance Institutions.”
She further emphasized, “As global challenges grow, so does the EU’s determination to remain a reliable, consistent, and principled partner.”
The Europe Day celebration underscored the shared values and deepening cooperation between the European Union and Nepal.
