“With the deadline for agreeing the draft of a new constitution fast approaching, we call upon all political parties to redouble their efforts and show the required flexibility to bring to a rapid conclusion the many years of discussion by agreeing modalities for the integration and rehabilitation of the former PLA combatants, and by completing before 28 May 2011 the drafting of a democratic, inclusive constitution through the Constituent Assembly,” the EU countries said in a statement on Tuesday. The countries issuing the statement include the Kathmandu-based missions of Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands Norway, the United Kingdom and the EU Delegation.
“We recognize and welcome the efforts, which have been made to maintain peace and work towards concluding the agreements reached by all political parties in the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA) of 2006,” read the statement.
As donors and friends of Nepal, the EU countries said they remain concerned that the uncertainty about the country´s democratic development, and its capacity to deliver economic growth and services to all its citizens would continue until there is a comprehensive and sustainable peace in line with the agreements reached in the CPA.
Let’s live in peace and embrace diversity
