According to a statement issued by the EU delegation office in Nepal, during the meeting, Commissioner Piebalgs reaffirmed existing EU support on Nepal´s democratic process. Commissioner Piebalgs also informed that the EU is sending Election Observation Mission to Nepal, which will be deployed for the forthcoming Constituent Assembly elections. [break]
During the meeting, Commissioner Piebalgs announced EU’s plans to increase development assistance to Nepal for the period 2014-2020 with a view to bringing added value in three major sectors: integrated rural development, education and governance.
“Minister Koirala stressed the instrumental role of EU support over the years in the political and economic development of Nepal and underlined that Nepal was moving towards more political stability with elections for Constituent Assembly to be held on the 19 November,” reads the statement issued by the Kathmandu-based EU delegation office.
