A Green Team and a Conservation Team participated in the match. CA members and environmentalist were in the Green Team while actors, singers and media personalities were in the Conservation Team.
Komal Oli, Gauri Malla, Yogeshwor Amatya (skipper), Bharat Sitoula and Dambar Nepali were among those who played from Conservation while Gagan Thapa, Sunil Babu Panta and Chiranjivi Bhattarai were in Green.
On the occasion, students from various schools performed a march past with banners urging environmental conservation.
Speaking on the relevance of a football match on World Environment Day former Miss Nepal Sugarika KC said that football was the most effective way to convey the message of conservation as it is the most popular sport in Nepal.
Likewise, Ganesh Shah, a former minister, said organizing such programs would help even school children work against climate change. Seeing the huge crowds of students among the spectators and volunteers for environmental protection, he further added, “As a senior citizen it gives me satisfaction to see the young working for environment.”
In the friendly match, Conservation Team hammered Green Team 8-1. Suraj Singh Thakuri (VJ) and Swapnil Sharma (singer) each completed a hat trick for Conservation Team while folk singer Badri Pangeni and Shrawan Shrestha (journalist) added one each. Gyanendra Kumal (CA member) scored the consolation for Green Team.
