Nembang during a meeting with UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Friday, said the parties should either resolve the problem soon or allow the speaker to decide the matter as per the constitution, parliamentary regulations and the Supreme Court´s recent verdict on the issue.[break]
Nembang told Republica that Dahal gave a positive response to the proposal.
Nambang, at the meeting, had argued that an agreement among the major political parties was essential as the constitution and the parliamentary regulations envision that both the parliament and the CA shall be run in consensus among the parties.
However, Nepali Congress (NC) leader Ram Chandra Paudel, the lone candidate in the PM election, said the NC wouldn´t be ready to entrust the speaker with such a responsibility.
"I don´t think we can sign on such a blank cheque," Paudel said. He said he is hopeful that the parliament would elect him prime minister unopposed as it can´t go against the SC´s verdict. "May be the meaning of the speaker´s statement is that he wants to seek consent from other political parties as well for the same," Paudel argued.
