Employers directed to provide mandatory festival allowance to workers

Under Section 37 of the Labour Act, 2017, every worker is entitled to receive an amount equivalent to one month’s basic salary each year as a festival allowance for festivals observed according to their religion, culture and tradition.

KATHMANDU, Oct 8: The Department of Labour and Occupational Safety has directed all employers and establishments to provide workers with the legally mandated festival allowance.



Under Section 37 of the Labour Act, 2017, every worker is entitled to receive an amount equivalent to one month’s basic salary each year as a festival allowance for festivals observed according to their religion, culture and tradition.

Workers who do not receive the allowance can file a complaint or application with the Labour and Employment Office in their respective area or the Department of Labour and Occupational Safety.


Complaints, grievances and suggestions can also be submitted by email at info@dolos.gov.np. The department has also provided a QR code for submitting complaints and grievances.
