ITAHARI, July 23: A new agreement has been reached between Nepal and India to contain flood-related problems in the Saptakoshi barrage.  This is the second such agreement was made by the officials of the neighboring countries within a week.

According to the latest agreement, only emergency works will be conducted along the eastern embankment during the rainy season. "Due to the immense increase in water levels, other works are not possible,´´ said Manik Lal Shrestha, director of Eastern Regional Irrigation Office.

"The eastern embankment has been eroded at many places though the impact of high water levels is almost everywhere, " he said.
