KATHMANDU, Jan 26: In yet another tragic case stemming out of inter-caste discrimination rampant in rural Nepal, a teenage couple who had eloped merely four days ago in Rukum West has been found dead inside the shed adjoining the house of the teenage boy.
As per the District Police Office (DPO), Rukum West, the teenagers who had fled home seeking respite in a love marriage were discovered lifeless in the shed in Khumcheri village of Triveni Rural Municipality-4 at 9 am on Saturday. Police have identified the deceased as Lokendra Khadka, 19, and Sapana Pun Magar, 19.

According to the chief of the DPO Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Parmesh Bista, local residents of the village had discovered the lifeless bodies of the couple in the shed at 9 am on Saturday. “The locals reported that Khadka was found hanging while Magar’s lifeless body was found lying on the ground,” he told Republica.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that Magar who is from Triveni Rural Municipality-6, eloped with Khadka four days ago after he promised to marry her. The locals informed the police that the incident happened in the absence of Khadka’s parents, who are reportedly in Nepalgunj for the treatment of Khadka’s mother who recently fell sick.
“However, we have not been able to ascertain the date of their departure for Nepalgunj,” DSP Bista revealed.
DSP Bista, who was on the site on Saturday evening informed Republica that the parents of the couple had arrived at the site and police had sent the bodies for post-mortem.
