KATHMANDU, Oct 27: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has said that the election will be held as scheduled.

Inaugurating a two-day election program today, Dr. Yadav said, “ the ballot papers under the proportional representation category have been completed. The printing of ballot papers under the House of Representatives and State Assembly elections under the First Past the Post System (FPTP) will begin today itself.”

Despite being difficult from the point of managerial and technical point of view, the Election Commission (EC) has agreed to hold both the elections simultaneously as per the need of the country, agreement of the political parties and the demand of the government, said Yadav. Dismissing speculations, criticisms and opinions being made over whether the elections will be held on the stipulated time frame, Yadav said the EC is committed to holding both the elections as scheduled, urging all the stakeholders to help make the historic event a success.

Clarifying that there is no confusion whether the election will be held, Yadav said, “publicity campaign has begun following conclusion of filing nominations. Electoral symbols have been provided while the printing of ballot papers for the proportional representation category has been finished. The work of establishing offices of returning officers has started.”

He further said that the EC will expedite its election programs as suggested by the panel formed by the Commission to respect the verdict issued by the SC on the ballot papers.
