RUKUM, Feb 26: Coordinator of Naya Shakti Nepal Baburam Bhattarai alleged that the government announced the date for local election only because the Pushpa Kamal Dahal led government wants to extend its tenure.

Speaking in a press conference organized by Federation of Nepali Journalist district chapter in Rukum, Bhattarai also said that the government took wrong route by announcing election date without amending the constitution.

"Had the government completed the constitution amendment and declared the election date, it would have been a right path but the government chose wrong one," said Bhattarai, also the former prime minister.

Bhattarai claimed that there was an agreement within ruling coalition to replace the present government by mid-April and alleged that the government announced election date to evade the deadline.

He argued that no election could be held without bringing the United Democratic Madhesi Front on consensus. "How could an election take place when some force want election and some work to disrupt it?" questioned Bhattarai.
