Inaugurating the fifth national convention of the Association of Community Radio Broadcasters´ Nepal (ACRBN) in the capital on Sunday, Regmi also expressed confidence that all agitating parties would eventually decide to participate in the elections. “Efforts are under way to bring dissenting parties on board the election process. Chairman Regmi also asked community radio broadcasters to help create conducive environment for elections as radios play very important role in shaping public opinion for elections. "The only objective and focus of the current government is to hold the elections on the stipulated date," he said.
Addressing the function, Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Poudel said the government is serious about the problems faced by community radios. He also said that efforts are under way to provide government advertisements even to community radios.
UCPN (Maoist) leader Post Bahadur Bogati while lauding the role played by community radio in creating awareness in society asked the community radios to play constructive role to help make the upcoming elections a success.
Likewise, Nepali Congress (NC) publicity department chief Minendra Rijal asked community radio broadcasters to focus on sustainability. He also asked them to give due priority to issues concerning local level as almost all radios tend to give more focus on national issues.
CPN-UML spokesman Pradeep Gyawali while lauding the role of community radios in creating awareness among the people urged them to help institutionalize the achievements of the historic political change of 2006. He sought support of community radios in helping institutionalizing the republic.
Addressing the function, ACRBN Chairman Min Bahadur Shahi said that community radios were facing hard times due to power outage and financial crunch. He asked the government to extend necessary support. “Community radios will extend all necessary support to help make the CA elections a success,” he added.
