Election Commission proposes PM Deuba to hold federal poll on November 18

KATHMANDU, July 7: Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has proposed Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to announce November 18 date for both provincial and federal elections.


Chief Election Commissioner Thapaliya, who reached the PM’s Official Residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday, made the proposal on the election date.


The Thapaliya-led delegation of the Election Commission proposed holding the provincial and federal parliament election simultaneously on November 18.

In response, PM Deuba said he would discuss the proposal in the meeting of the Council of Ministers and take a decision to this effect at the earliest.


Election Commission Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel said the government decides the date as per the recommendation of Election Commission. The EC has urged the government to provide essentials for electronic voting by August 17.


The term of the members of the federal and provincial parliaments is expiring on December 8, 2022. The EC has intensified the preparation for holding the election to the provincial and federal parliaments on a single date.
