KATHMANDU, June 14: The Election Commission (EC) of Nepal has started preparations to hold the provincial and federal elections by the third week of November this year.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel of the EC said that the commission has started internal preparations to hold the upcoming provincial and federal elections by the third week of November. He also said that the commission has made internal preparations to hold both the elections at the same time. Spokesperson Poudel also clarified that the commission was making internal preparations as the government would announce the date of the election in consultation with the commission as per the election law.

He said that the EC will start the program of compiling and updating the voter list from June 20 in view of the upcoming elections. Spokesperson Poudel said that the program of compiling and updating the voter list from all election offices and all district administration offices and 73 area administration offices will be started from June 15 considering the possibility of announcing the date of members of the House of Representatives and National Assembly in the near future. He also mentioned that one could register oneself in the voter list by visiting the election office of the district where an individual is currently residing.
According to Poudel, the voters will be able to correct the error by making necessary decisions if they submit an application with proof to correct their name, address, date of birth and other details in the voter list. He also said that if any person lodges a complaint with proof to remove a name from the voter list using false details, the name registration officer (election authority) can investigate and decide to remove the name.
