Election Commission prohibits vehicular movement on election day

KATHMANDU, May 13: Vehicular movement will be prohibited on Sunday for the first phase of local level elections. The Election Commission (EC) has decided to prohibit the use of public and private vehicles on May 14 in 34 districts of provinces 3, 4 and 6.

KATHMANDU, May 13: Vehicular movement will be prohibited on Sunday for the first phase of local level elections. The Election Commission (EC) has decided to prohibit the use of public and private vehicles on May 14 in 34 districts of provinces 3, 4 and 6.


This prohibitory order will come into effect from Saturday midnight till Sunday evening. 

"Public vehicles will not be allowed to ply on the road during the elections and even after the voting is over.

Public transportation will be resumed only after late evening when the ballot boxes are collected," said Election Commissioner Narendra Dahal. 


The EC, however, would allow ambulances and vehicles used by security agencies, emergency services and the press to operate after they get approval from the concerned authorities.

The EC has issued a circular to the security agencies including traffic police to monitor the vehicular movement.
