PALPA, Oct 24: An elected representative was arrested in Palpa on the charge of thrashing a man in Palpa. The arrestee has been identified as Chunna Bahadur Bista, the ward member of Tinau rural municipality-6.
According to Devraj Poudel, Police Inspector of District Police Office Palpa, ward member Bista had beaten Mohan Bir Nepali, 51, of Tinau rural municipality, Masyam. Acting on a complaint of the victim in line with the Caste-based Discrimination and Untouchability Offense Act, the District Police Office Palpa arrested Bista.

The District Court Palpa on Wednesday had extended the remand to Bista for eight days, Inspector Poudel informed. Bista had thrashed Nepali on Sunday morning over a dispute related to a financial transaction. Police claimed that the elected representative had used abusive and demeaning words to Nepali in course of the dispute. Nepali had sustained injuries in his eyes, neck and different body parts.
