Eight killed in landslides in Pyuthan

PYUTHAN, July 5: Eight people including five of the same family were killed in separate incidents of landslides in Pyuthan last night. 

At Rajbara-3, the landslide buried the house of Durga Bahadur Malla, killing the Malla couple and their three daughters on the spot, according to a local Jogindra Malla. Rajbara lies in the northern part of the district. 

Malla is around 45 years of age and his spouse is 40 year-old. Their daughters Sushila, 10, Lekha, 7 and one and half year-old Sirjana lost their lives along with their parents to the tragic incident. 
A joint rescue team comprising Chief District Officer Janakraj Panta, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ranjat Singh Rathor and Red Cross staffs is at the site. The bodies of the victims have been recovered from the rubble.

Meanwhile, three of the same family died after a landslide hit a house at Puja-3 in the northern Pyuthan last night. The deceased have been identified as Hom Bahadur Sunar, his spouse and a granddaughter. 

Similarly, seven people have been trapped amidst the flooded Jhimruk River at Baraula VDC in Pyuthan. They are the workers hired for digging out a canal at Hariyatar, said a local Gopal Thapa, and are desperately waiting for the rescue. RSS
