Five teenagers drowned in Sunsari alone on Saturday. In Narsingh VDC, three girls died after they drowned in ponds while swimming. The dead have been identified as Salina Khtun, 10, Awana Khatun, 11, and Marjina Khatun, 3. Likewise, Bipana Jha, 11, of Madhesa VDC, who was grazing goats, was swept away by a local river. [break]
In another case, Khadgi Rishidev, 17, of Satterjhoda VDC in Sunsari, died as he slipped into a local stream Saturday.
Similarly, Man Kumari Rana, 55, was swept away by a river in Palpa Saturday.
In Chandranighahapur of Rautahat, a minor drowned into a pond Saturday. Eight-year-old Sudip Rai, the son of Kumar Rai, of Magaljhadi-2 of Sindhuli and now living in Chandranigahapur-1, died after drowning into a pond in Chandranigahapur-5, said police inspector Gautam Mishra.
Similarly, a man drowned into Jogmai river of Ilam district while fishing. Rajdev Rai, 40, of Panchakanya-3 of the district drowned while fishing on Friday, said police.
One electrocuted
A worker of Nepal Electricity Authority, Sindhuli, was electrocuted while maintaining a transmitter. The deceased is Jagdish Gautam, 23, of Kamalamai Municipality-4, the police said.
Gautam who was working at NEA, Sindhuli branch, for two years was injured due to an electric shock on Friday while repairing the transmitter at Ratmata in Kamalamai-6.
Police sub-inspector Laxmi Thapa said Gautam breathed his last while being treated at Sindhuli district hospital. NEA, Sindhuli, said Rs 500,000 compensation will be provided to the deceased´s family.
Poison kills baby
A minor died after consuming pesticide at Bansaha of Pipaladi-3 in Kanchanpur district.
The 18-month-old, Milan Saud, was rushed to Mahakali Zonal Hospital when he drank the poison mixed with water. Saud died while undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Accident claims cop
An Armed Police Force person died in a motorcycle accident at Hattilet- 9 of Bardibas in Mahottari district on Friday night.
Head constable Narayan Adhikari of Bhaktipur-4 of Sarlahi, who was riding the motorcycle while heading for Bardibas died while undergoing treatment at a polyclinic in Bardibas. Pillion rider, Gopal Lama of Hattilet- 5 was seriously injured in the accident.
Doc thrashed to death
A doctor who was severely beaten by an unidentified group died while undergoing treatment at Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar on Friday night.
Subash Yonjan, 40, a resident of Fikkal, Ilam died while undergoing a CT scan test in the hospital. He had sustained severe injuries in his head, the police said.
The doctor was lying unconscious in Fikkal bazaar before the police rescued him to the hospital.
Yonjon was working for Kankai Hospital, Birtamod.
The assailants are absconding.
