KATHMANDU, Aug 20: Eggs producers have increased the price by Rs 15 per crate (30 units), escalating the price for the second time in a week and five times in a month.
According to the Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association (NLPFA), it has set a new support selling price for eggs, effective from Thursday.

At the new price list, the price of the largest size egg has now gone up to Rs 590 per carton. Similarly, the price of large eggs has been set at Rs 575 per crate and the price of medium eggs at Rs 535 per crate, while that of small eggs has been set at Rs 3200 per carton.
The price of eggs has been continuously rising recently. According to the NLPFA, the price of the largest size eggs stood at Rs 525 per crate at the starting of the current Fiscal Year.
Farmers and traders have attributed the notable rise in eggs price to a decline in production. NLPFA President Binod Pokharel said due to the bird flu infection a few months ago, a large number of chickens had to be destroyed. “With the drop in production, farmers are finding it difficult to meet the market demand,” Pokharel added.
