KATHMANDU, Jan 26: The Election Commission issued the Code of Conduct regarding the National Assembly Election today. The National Assembly election is slated for February 7.
The Code is applicable to provincial governments, local levels representatives and officials, NGO’s and INGO’s, security personnel, sister organizations of all political parties, candidates, mass media and concerned authorities.

The government is not allowed to take decisions on promotion, transfer or new appointment, funding and survey when the Code is in effect. It also restricts approval of new budget or initiation of new infrastructure or other development activities to attract voters.
However, the code of conduct will not guide fiscal budget and its planned activities. According to the EC spokesperson Nawaraj Dhakal, if the government is to take any vital but unscheduled decisions, it must consult with the EC.
The EC is hopeful that candidates won’t breach the Code as they themselves would cast their votes in the elections.
