The EC made public the total list of about 11,000 candidates a day after the political parties submitted their respective amended closed lists of PR candidates.
The EC had asked all 122 political parties, which had submitted closed lists of their PR candidates, to submit their amended closed list by Tuesday. [break]
According to EC Spokesperson Bir Bahadur Rai, eight political parties, including UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML, have submitted closed lists of candidates for all 335 seats allocated under the proportional electoral system.
As per the closed lists of PR candidates, two political parties have submitted closed lists for the minimum 10 percent of seats under the proportional system.
Rai said that the EC will publish the close lists of PR candidates in the state-run Gorkhaptra daily on Friday.
The UCPN (Maoist) has allocated 104 seats for Madhesi candidates, 52 for women and the same number for men.
The party has allocated 21 seats for Dalit women and 22 for Dalit men. Similarly, the UCPN (Maoist) has allocated 64 seats for indigenous women and 63 for the men.
The party has 6 women and men 7 candidates from backward regions while there are 51 women and 50 men candidates representing the Khas and Arya group.
The CPN-UML has named 52 Madhesi women candidates and the same number of men candidates under the proportional election system.
The party has 22 Dalit women PR candidates and 21 men candidates. CPN-UML has also allocated 107 seats for indigenous candidates, 53 for women and 54 for men.
There are 7 women and 7 men candidates from the backward regions. CPN-UML has allocated 101 seats for candidates from the Khas-Arya and other communities, including 50 women candidates and 51 men.
No PR candidate of the UML for the erstwhile CA has been included among the PR candidates this time.
Similarly, among the PR candidates of the Nepali Congress, 3 were FPTP candidates for the erstwhile CA.
NC´s 34 central members are now PR candidates. Likewise, 2 of NC´s PR candidates are man and wife, while 3 are journalists. The chief whip and whip in NC´s erstwhile parliamentary party, who were not among the FTPT candidates, have not been included among the PR candidates either.
NC has a total of 168 female candidates under PR electoral system.
According to EC officials, the political parties had on Tuesday submitted the amended closed lists of their respective PR candidates, with corrections in the names and middle names of some of them as well as replacement of old candidates with new ones.
Altogether 124 political parties out of the total of 130 had filed applications on September 30 to participate under the proportional electoral system for the upcoming CA election scheduled for November 19, while 122 parties had submitted the closed lists of their respective PR candidates on October 4.
As per the calendar of events for the proportional electoral system, one can file compliants against the competency of nominated candidates on October 24 and the EC will take decisions on the matter on October 31.
The EC will issue a notice on November 7 regarding removal of candidates from the closed lists while candidates who want to withdraw their candidacy can file applications to that effect on November 8.
On November 15, the EC will inform the political parties concerned about the withdrawal of names of their candidates, and publish the final lists later the same day.
