KATHMANDU, June 19: The Election Commission of Nepal (ECN) has decided to communicate to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) for announcing a public holiday in 35 districts across province no 1, 5 and 7 on June 28 in view of the second phase of local level election.

As the government employees, non-governmental ones alike will be mobilized for facilitation during the poll and rendering services could be adversely affected on the day, the Commission is to ask the MoHA to grant public holiday for all government offices, semi-government and public institutions on that very day, according to the Commission's Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma.

Spokesperson Sharma shared that the polling stations are placed mostly at the community, private boarding schools and colleges in most of the 334 local units.

The Commission has also decided to write to the Ministry of Education (MoE) for it to announce public holiday for the academic institutions from June 25-28, shared Sharma. "Since the vote counting would be held in the buildings in the polling stations, the MoE has been asked to make necessary arrangement for the same if need be," said Sharma, adding that the Commission would send letters to the local authorities in these districts to arrange other government spaces for voting and vote counting.
